How Massage Helps Ease Anxiety

The Calming Power of Touch

🌿 The Calming Power of Touch: How Massage Helps Ease Anxiety

Blue Pacific Massage & Body Works

In today’s fast-paced world, anxiety has become a common companion for many. Whether it’s work stress, personal challenges, or simply the overwhelm of daily life, finding ways to calm the mind and body is essential. One powerful, natural method? Massage therapy.

🧠 How Massage Affects the Mind and Body

Massage isn’t just about relaxation — it’s a therapeutic tool that works on both physical and emotional levels. When you receive a massage, your body begins to lower cortisol, the stress hormone, and increase serotonin and dopamine, the “feel-good” chemicals that help regulate mood.

This shift in brain chemistry can:

  • Reduce feelings of anxiety and depression
  • Improve sleep quality
  • Enhance emotional resilience
  • Promote a sense of calm and clarity

💆‍♀️ Physical Relief That Supports Mental Wellness

Anxiety often shows up in the body as muscle tension, especially in the neck, shoulders, and back. Massage helps release these knots, sending signals to the brain that it’s safe to relax. It also slows heart rate and lowers blood pressure, activating the parasympathetic nervous system — your body’s natural “rest and digest” mode.

🌊 A Safe Space to Reconnect

Beyond the science, massage offers something deeply human: comforting touch. It creates a nurturing environment where you can pause, breathe, and reconnect with yourself. For many, it’s like an hourlong hug — a moment of peace in a busy world.

🧘‍♂️ A Complement to Holistic Wellness

While massage isn’t a cure for anxiety disorders, it’s a powerful complement to other forms of care like therapy, exercise, and mindfulness. Regular sessions can help you manage stress more effectively and feel more grounded in your day-to-day life.

Alternative, Holistic or Complimentary Medicine

                                  Alternative, Holistic or Complimentary Medicine

The Popularity of Massage and other Alternative Medicine has steadily increased.  More than 50% of all Americans used some form of Alternative therapy, there is an estimated 629 million visits to Alternative practitioners compared with 386 million visits to primary care Physicians.
Massage  known as Alternative Medicine, Holistic Medicine and or Complementary Medicine.
Alternative Medicine, a term that implies using services other than those usually accepted by allopathic physicians. Many people seek the use of alternative practices to go along with the services of conventional physicians.
Complimentary Medicine, the term which implies that the alternative practices can work together with more conventional medicine for the benefit of clients, and seems to have taken the place of alternative medicine along with the change in attitude of "becoming more socially acceptable" and  "more accepted by the medical community."
Holistic means to look at the whole picture. All things affecting the health of the individual including spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, social and environmental. The Holistic approach includes the participation of the client where diet , imagery, positive thinking and meditation all help in the healing process.
It never seems to amaze me the difference when integrating massage into a persons life the benefits  and the overall healthy feeling that comes with massage. I see many clients experience a more lifting energetic, yet at the same time a more relaxed attitude towards everyday life.
I experience proof of the effects of massage just by seeing the difference I have made for that person who came to me looking for one thing or another be it pain relief or finding a relaxed state of being and knowing I made that difference is one of the most rewarding feelings I know.

Get the "Fuzz" out with Massage....

In my most popular massage which is Blue Pacific's Full Body Massage  I integrate stretches as stretching is very important for getting the fuzz out....... What is that you ask well its explained here in this Video . I do a lot of research and through that research I found this video and wanted to share it.

As explained in the video when we are immobile or asleep the interfaces of our muscles grow a type of "fuzz" between the sliding surfaces of your musculature and when we stretch.......that fuzz melts away. The fuzz is a thin layer of fine loose filmy fiber often found between superficial fascia and deep fascia. When you get a build up of this fuzz it causes a stiffness and if we get too much build up of the "fuzz" we get thicker fibers forming which inhibits movement and reduces range of motion. This is one of the reasons I always put some stretches into my massage not only is it getting rid of that fuzz it also feels great !!

The many benefits from stretching the muscles, tendons and cartilage are that the stretch lengthens muscle fibers that have contracted from disuse or excessive use and helps restore muscle flexibility, assists in removal of natural wastes like lactic acid from muscles it also helps increases flexibility, restores muscle balance and warms the muscles. Stretching also relieves stress and tension, reduces inflammation in joints and improves posture.

How to Receive a Massage

I recently filled in at a Chiropractic Office for a massage therapist and on her wall she had this printout on  "How to Receive a Massage" for her clients.  as I was preparing the room for the next massage client it caught my attentionBetween massage sessions I had some time  to read it and really liked it so I asked the Dr. if he would mind if I used it for my website and in my business, Blue Pacific Massage & Body Works. I took a copy home and yes I did do a little editing and added or changed a few things but I wanted to share with anyone interested.....

Because Massage is not a common part of our contemporary cultural experience, many people feel uneasy about receiving their first massage. Here are a few guidelines to help you feel at ease and to gain the greatest benefit from your massage session.

Tell the therapist about areas of your body, which are injured, tense or sore. Also mention any medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, heart problem, chronic headaches, varicose veins or recent surgery. Most therapist have you fill out forms with these questions prior to your first session as they want to be sure there are no contraindications with the massage . With this knowledge they can decide which treatments you would benefit with the most.

The best way to receive a massage is with the body completely unclothed. The therapist is sensitive to the need for privacy and will keep your body covered with a sheet or blanket, except for the area being massaged. It will be uncovered while being massaged and then recovered when not. However if this  is uncomfortable in any way you may choose to wear under garments or a swimsuit, the client may choose to leave on as much clothing as needed for comfort.  This is your massage session and you should be as comfortable as possible.

Conversation can be distracting to you and the therapist. Good massage often requires the therapist to focus her thoughts and energy and concentrate on what your body is telling her and what she needs to do for your body to receive the healing process through the massage. Try to confine your conversation to feedback about the massage. Some people don’t realize that conversation is distracting them from truly feeling the sensations a massage gives. Try just concentrating on those sensations and you might be amazed at the difference it does actually make.

Once you are on the massage table close your eyes and allow yourself to relax as completely as possible. Focus your attention on your breathing, slow deep and even, allow yourself to experience all those relaxing sensations.

When the Massage Therapist’s hands locate areas of pain or tension in the body, try doing this mind exercise …consciously try to relax the area being massaged and as you inhale deeply visualize the breath flowing to the tense area and relaxing it then as you fully exhale visualize the tension leaving the body with the breath.

Allow the Massage Therapist to move your limbs into various positions. Be Limp, like a rag doll, and do not try to help move your arms, legs, or head. The therapist is a trained professional who will not do anything to hurt you. However, feel free to speak up if anything the therapist does is too painful or ticklish, or uncomfortable in any way. Most Massage Therapist ask the client about the pressure they are using if it is to much or not enough and when doing deep tissue they will most likely use a pain scale for you to communicate with them about the pressure being used as a trained professional they know the importance of pain scales and how to much pain can actually hurt you more than help you. So be sure and take the responsibility to inform the therapist of any discomfort so that adjustments can be made to the pressure and/or massage techniques being used.

Very often, as the body releases tension during a massage, the mind will release emotion. If you suddenly feel sad, angry or joyful do not be alarmed, allow yourself to express these feelings by crying or laughing. At the very least, feel free to sigh with the relaxation or hum with pleasure.

Many people fall asleep during a relaxing massage, an indication that the body and mind are releasing stress and tension. The massage therapist will gently wake you when it is time to turn over or end the massage.

Contrary to a common notion in our society about massage, it is an ancient healing art and not a sexual service. The body might become aroused as you experience the pleasure of total relaxation.  However, sexual behavior during the massage is inappropriate and will result in termination of the massage session. A Professional Massage Therapist will not tolerate any sexual advances as this is her profession and looks at Massage as the Healing Art it actually is.

Enjoy your massage and I hope that this experience will be the beginning of a lifelong practice to help you enjoy the benefits of massage for your overall health and well being.

Lower Back Pain

Professional Massage Therapy & Lower Back Pain

Most people have experienced lower back pain.  It is in fact, a very common complaint among many people, especially those who have been employed in physically challenging professions, athletes, as well as accident victims.  Recent studies have found that a professional massage therapy is one of the more effective, and money saving alternatives available, and more beneficial than traditional medical treatments.  Seeking the assistance of a professional massage therapist, Hesperia, CA, is the most beneficial treatment you will find!

Chronic lower back pain is among the top reasons patients see doctors, and alternative medicine practitioners.  Dr. Daniel Cherkin, Director of the Group Health Research Institute states that lower back pain is also a common cause of disability, work absenteeism, and 'presenteeism,' when people are unable to perform well at work.   A study involving 401 patients with ages ranging between 20, to 65 years, found some amazing results when these people were treated with massage therapy.
The study compared the effectiveness of structural massage, versus usual medical care, medication, and physical therapy.  Patients were randomly assigned to receive one of three treatments as follows:

· Group 1 – Full body relaxation massage, often called Swedish massage
· Group 2 – Focused deep tissue massage for pain related tissues, ligaments, and joints.
· Group 3 – Painkillers, anti inflammatory drugs, muscle relaxants, or physical therapy.

Groups 1 & 2 were given a one hour massage, once a week for 10 weeks.

After 10 weeks, the patients were surveyed again in relation to their symptoms, and mobility, and again assessed at 6 months, and again at 12 months.

Groups 1 & 2 reported that their lower back pain had improved significantly, or was completely gone altogether.  It was found that patients who received massage therapy, were twice as likely to see improvements in pain, and function, as those receiving usual medical treatment, as with Group 3.

After 10 weeks, approximately two-thirds of groups 1 & 2, had made substantial improvement as opposed to about one-third of those in the usual care group.   These results quite literally speak for themselves.

Even though studies in the past have somewhat concentrated on the benefits of deep tissue massage, this study has also proven that relaxation massage, also has incredible benefits.  There are two main reasons for this, relaxation massage is more widely available, and more affordable than a lot of traditional medical treatments, and medications.

If you are suffering with lower back pain, and want easily accessible, and affordable assistance, speak to Terree a Certified Massage Therapist of Blue Pacific Massage and Body Works.

Terree is a fully qualified, trained professional in a wide variety of professional massage techniques.

Massage For Tension Headaches

Are Tension Headaches Affecting Your Life?

We've all experienced that horrible headache, caused by stress and tension. They can stop us from being able to focus properly, can inhibit our performance at work, as well as stop any chance to relax. This in turn stops the body from being able to recharge the batteries, and the cycle continues. Seeking the assistance of a qualified, professional massage therapist just may be the answer!

A lot of people have heard the term “tension headache,” but may not exactly understand what it is. Basically, a tension headache is caused by stress, and exacerbated by dehydration. Pain seems to occur at the top, and/or sides of the head, and sometimes can also include pain behind the eyes, and stiff neck and shoulders. These can go on for days on end if steps aren't taken to fix the issue.

Blue Pacific Massage & Body Works is a professional massage therapy business, located in Hesperia, California. Owner/operator Terree Nelson, is highly qualified and experienced in a large variety of massage therapy methods, and techniques. Tension headaches often originate from a painful neck and shoulders. These are caused by stress, and even a bad posture, which can spread up to the muscles around the skull. Not many people are actually aware that there are muscles around the skull.

When we are experiencing this kind of headache, many people unknowingly add to it by clenching their jaw.  We can tend to do this in our sleep, without even realizing it.  This is also not good for the teeth. This tightens the muscles around the skull even further, resulting in constant headaches. So now we know what causes these headaches, how can Blue Pacific Massage & Body Works help?

Terree can effectively ease and soften the muscles around the sides of the head, temples, and where the neck meets the skull. Research has shown that chronic tension headaches can indeed be treated efficiently by a professional massage therapist.  An experienced massage therapist from Blue Pacific Massage & Body Works can also advise on exercises you can do yourself at home, or in the office, to help ease the muscle tension.

If you are one of the many sufferers of tension headaches, get a massage for tension headaches just Call or Text 760 680 7910 for your appointment!!

With the holidays here it’s the time of year for giving, and helping to make holiday wishes come true. Well what about you? How about treating yourself to a massage while you're out taking care of all the extra tasks the holidays add to our daily life.

Massage Beats Stress: This is one of the most stressful times of the year for many people. Long shopping lists, your family is either coming or already here, and you’re almost out of time! Massage therapy will help you feel rejuvenated and you will probably get more done in less time.

It’s cold outside : When the temperature drops, muscles seem to tighten,  achy backs/hips/knees seem to set in. Let a massage therapist from Blue Pacific Massage & Body Works warm up those muscles and joints and help relieve your pain.

You’re doing so much more: On the go, carrying heavy bags, putting up lights, carrying boxes from their storage place, cleaning your house, standing while baking cookies for hours in the kitchen ect. Well no wonder you've got some knots and kinks. Massage therapy can help you to recover faster and feel great again.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage Explained

Most of us have heard the term “Swedish Massage,” but probably most do not know it's origin, or how beneficial it can actually be. Swedish physiologist, Per Henrik Ling, pioneered both Swedish massage, and physical therapy at the University of Stockholm in the early 19th century. Ling developed a system called “Medical Gymnastics” which incorporated movements performed by a professional therapist. This technique was brought to the United States in 1858, and is known as Swedish massage.

Swedish massage is now the most common and probably best known massage technique in the west. But how exactly can it benefit you?  Swedish massage involves the massage therapist using certain massage strokes to relieve muscle pain. Depending on your own individual needs, a professionally trained Swedish massage therapist, can either use slow and gentle techniques, or vigorous, and bracing.  A professionally trained Swedish massage therapist will first work to relax the muscles, and prepare them for deeper strokes or  “deep tissue” therapy.   Normally an experienced Swedish massage therapist will require about 50 to 60 minutes of your time to ensure you get the most benefit from this technique.

Blue Pacific Massage and Body Works, is a professional massage therapy business located in Hesperia, California.  Owner/operator Terree Nelson, is a highly qualified, and trained CMT, certified massage therapist. Trained in a wide variety of massage modalities, and techniques, Terree's focus is on the wellness, and health of her clients.  A professional Swedish massage therapist, among many other styles, Terree explains the entire process to each and every client, and takes the time to find every area that requires work.

Keeping to the correct Swedish massage technique, Terree first lubricates the skin with massage oil, and performs a variety of massage strokes to warm up the muscle tissue, release tension, and gradually break up any muscle “knots.” Among the many benefits of Swedish massage, this technique also promotes relaxation.  It is always highly advised to inform Terree of any injuries, or conditions you are suffering. Unlike many other massage therapists, Terree communicates throughout the massage, to ensure you are completely comfortable, and to discuss any degree of discomfort you may be feeling.

If you are someone who requires deeper massage work, and can tolerate more pressure, and even moments of discomfort to get relief from muscle pain, then there are many techniques that can be done.

Call or Text (760) 680 7910 to arrange an appointment, and to also discuss your specific needs. Terree can even design a personalized massage, and wellness program, just for you.

Massage for Neck Pain

               Are You Suffering Neck Pain?

Every one of us has experienced neck pain at one time or another.  It could be that you have an injury, a medical condition, or may have even slept the wrong way.  Regardless of the reason, neck pain and neck related pain, is never much fun to deal with, and can severely limit our day to day activities.  What you really need to do, is seek out a professional massage therapist, Hesperia, CA.

In the United States, neck pain is one of the most common health problems.  Usually, people will see their medical practitioner, and some will sometimes turn to alternative medical therapies, such as massage, for assistance.  Up until recently, little was known about the effectiveness of message therapy with neck pain, even though massage techniques have been used for centuries in many cultures.

A study was recently conducted at the Group Health Center in Seattle, with 64 sufferers of neck pain.  This study was NCCAM-funded.  Participants in the study had to have had neck pain persisting for at least 12 weeks to qualify, and were then randomly assigned to receive either massage treatments, or a self-care book.

The group assigned to receive massages, had up to 10 treatments over a 10 week period, which was provided by licensed, professional massage therapists.  A variety of massage techniques were used, as well as giving patients self help tips.  After the 10 weeks, this group was found to have had significant improvements in both function, and symptoms. After continuing the study for 26 weeks, the massage group again reported improvements in function, as well as symptoms, however, the self-care book group, had a medication use increase of up to 14%. There were no serious adverse experiences reported.

The conclusion of this study showed that not only is therapeutic massage safe, but has long term benefits for treating chronic neck pain, as well as in the short term.  Many cultures have known about the benefits of therapeutic massage for centuries, and many are now turning to professional massage therapists as part of their wellness programs.

If you are experiencing chronic neck pain, call or Text (760) 680 7910.Owner/operator Terree Nelson, at Blue Pacific Massage & Body Works is a fully qualified, professional massage therapist, who is highly trained in a variety of professional massage modalities!

I am a firm believer in Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy is a scientifically based technique of massage therapy. Using soft tissue manipulation by utilizing static pressure, the same level of intensity is held for a certain amount of time on a taut muscle or point. Keeping the pressure anywhere from 10 to 40 seconds usually until you get the taut muscle to release, sometimes this release can take longer so patience and good communication is a plus when using Neuromuscular Therapy. Your therapist will use a pain scale and instruct you on using breathing techniques to help in getting that tense or knotted muscle to release. This helps to re-balance the function of the nervous system and the skeletal system.

When a chain reaction begins say a stressed or over worked muscle you get what is known as vasoconstriction Thinning of the blood then with the thinning of the blood vessels in the affected area limited blood flow can cause muscle tissue to tighten. When muscle tissue becomes tight or hypertonic, toxins such as Pyruvic acids, Hyaluronic acids and Lactic acids get trapped, these acids cause pain as they are natural neuro-exciters, which cause increased nerve sensitivity which can cause muscle tissue to press nerves against bone also known as muscle compression which can cause a lot of pain. When in pain your body functions in different ways to compensate which can also lead to Postural Distortion and Biomechanical Dysfunction!! Myofascial Trigger Points may also become affected, which redirects pain from one part of the body to another. Thus your chain reaction if not taken care of from the onset.

Many times a client calls and is in such pain they really need help, I am a firm believer in Neuromuscular Therapy as it is very effective and has helped many clients get relief from their pain!! Neuromuscular Therapy helps loosen tight or tense muscles (hypertonic muscles) which restores circulation which then breaks the chain reaction and relieves the client’s pain.

Massage therapy as body maintenance for overall health and wellness helps to stop the chain reaction by taking care of the issues before they can cause more of the negative effects!!

Be sure and call or text Blue Pacific Massage & Body Works 760 680 7910 before your chain reaction begins….

Benefits of Lymphatic Massage

Benefits of Manual Lymph Drainage Massage (MLD) after Surgeries

Any massage is supposed to provide relaxation and make the muscles work more efficiently. Lymphatic massage is no different. A Manual Lymph Drainage Massage (MLD) is a procedure that helps the lymph system work more efficiently. When it is done following a surgery, the treated or operated area is given special attention and care to speed up the recovery process and get positive results.

Benefits of Lymphatic Massage

Lymphatic massage comes with many benefits. Some of them are discussed here.

Reduces Swelling

After a surgery such as liposuction, tummy tucks or other cosmetic surgeries, the treated may swell.  Lymphatic Massage helps in reducing the swelling more quickly while speeding up the recovery process.

Toxins are Flushed

When it comes to cosmetic surgeries or liposuction, the body gets a lot of toxins. If they are not flushed or removed, they can cause damage. Lymphatic Massage promotes flushing of toxins and maximizes the chances of the area to not become infected.

Improves Circulation of Blood

Lymphatic Massage promotes the circulation of blood in the treated areas. There may be some cases where the circulation of blood is affected. With the help of Lymphatic Massage, blood circulation as well as the circulation of lymphatic fluid is improved. During Lymphatic Massage, an experienced and professional massage therapist gently manipulates the skin and underlying tissues in the areas of lymph production to increase circulation and promote drainage and healing. It is a very light touch and very relaxing.

Enhances Healing Process

Lymphatic Massage enhances the healing process and makes the patient recover from the surgeries more quickly than naturally. With the involvement of different procedures, the muscles are relaxed which help recover and heal quickly. It also stimulates the healing of wounds.

Reduces Discomfort and Irritation

Procedures like tummy tucks, liposuction and cosmetic surgeries can be very painful and distressing. Post surgeries, the patient may find themselves in serious discomfort. Lymphatic Massage reduces discomfort and eliminates irritation making the patient relax.
These are some of the best benefits of Lymphatic Massage post surgeries, if you want to help reduce the pain and discomfort and recover more quickly, it is advisable to consult a Lymphatic Massage Therapist. You will feel much more relaxed and will also heal quicker. You will also get to see the desired results more quickly than expected because of the reduction in swelling.

Shiatsu or “finger pressure” massage

Shiatsu or “finger pressure” massage is a Japanese form of massage. It is often described as basically being the same as acupressure, but this is not really the case here, Shiatsu massage techniques go beyond using the specific pressure points. By integrating other methods such as, breathing techniques, stretching and body movement with your massage experience we get more of the whole-body approach to restoring energy balance. Although many of the claimed benefits have not been scientifically proven, advocates seem to believe that it can work to treat many different problems. Shiatsu is considered to be generally safe, with its roots going back thousands of years, this technique is growing in popularity around the world today!!

The main reasoning of the shiatsu massage is that chi or qu (energy) flows through channels or meridians of the body. When the energy flows freely, chi puts in positive energy while taking out negative energy, yin and yang!!! Shiatsu helps us to be more physically, emotionally and spiritually healthy. When chi is slowed or blocked it can cause problems in wellness such as sleeplessness, indigestion, swollen joints, headaches, depression, muscle tension, taut muscles knots and so on. By using Shiatsu massage to manipulate pressure points along specific meridians and relaxing the body, we get chi (energy) back in balance and flowing freely through the channels or meridians therefore, treating numerous health problems.
