Massage & Myofascial Release Techniques

Myofascial Release...Stretching of the fascia.

Understanding what Myofascial Release is and why or how it works, you need to understand a little about fascia. Fascia is a thin tissue that covers all the organs of the body, Fascia covers every muscle and every fiber of and within each muscle. All muscle stretching then, is actually stretching of the myofascial unit (the fascia and the muscle), muscle and fascia cannot be separated.
When muscle fibers are injured, the fibers and the fascia which surrounds it become tense or short and tight. This uneven stress can be felt throughout the fascia to other parts of the body, which can cause pain and a variety of other symptoms in other areas you often wouldn't expect. Myofascial Release treats these symptoms by releasing the tension or tightness of the injured fascia.
Direct Myofascial Release done through Deep Tissue work engages the myofascial tissues restrictive barrier or tension. Using a constant force on the tissue until release occurs. This can be done using knuckles, elbows, forearms, knees or other tools to slowly stretch the tension or restricted fascia. Direct myofascial release attempts to relieve the tension by stretching the fascia, or bringing movement to the adhesive tissues. Moving slowly through the layers of the fascia until reaching the deep tissues.
The indirect Myofascial Release is done with a gentle touch and stretch, with just a small amount of pressure, which helps the fascia to relax and release itself.
There are a lot of reasons why muscles, tendons and cartilage need to be stretched.
  •      Lengthens muscle fibers that have contracted from disuse or excessive use
  •          Increases flexibility
  •      Restores muscle balance
  •      Restore muscle flexibility after injury
  •     Assists in removal of natural wastes like lactic acid from muscles
  •     Warms the muscles

The benefits extend far beyond the muscles though.
  •  Improve posture
  •  Improves mental focus and concentration
  • Stimulate the digestive organs
  • Energize the body
  • Reduce inflammations in joints
  •  Relieve stress and tension

This massage technique is often integrated into your massage at Blue Pacific Massage & Body Works be it Direct Myofascial Release or Indirect Myofascial Release. I always encourage all my clients to do Stretches through out their daily activities and in between massage appointments, as stretching really is helpful in relieving tension.

Massage and Healing

Massage is a healing art which requires a combination of academic knowledge along with clinical skills, sensitivity, awareness and manual dexterity. Nearly everyone has the natural feel for giving a massage, yet it takes a genuine desire to help others, with a commitment to the time, energy, and focus necessary for being a good solid Massage Therapist.

All the information Professional Massage Therapists learn in the Anatomy and Physiology course to become a licensed Massage Therapist help to better understand how the bones, muscles and other systems of the body work and integrate with each other. It is an important course and when properly applied to massage therapy it can greatly increase the effectiveness of a massage.

Getting a massage from a licensed Massage Therapist who can tell you about the muscle tensions they've just worked on, why there might be tension there, and what exercises would help to address the buildup of this tension is more beneficial to you the client.Trained massage therapists, have to become certified, and take many courses in order to be qualified. They also are required to spend a certain amount of hours performing the actual massage with a licensed massage therapist's guidance before they become certified.

The field of massage therapy is growing rapidly in response to the public’s expanding interest in forms of healthcare that promote well-being and a higher quality of life.

Muscle Memory
Muscle memory problems can contribute to everything from postural irregularities to chronic pain.
Your natural muscle memory can change from repetitive movements, long-term stress, surgeries and traumatic injuries. What usually happens is your muscles enter an altered state due to the trauma and then remember that altered state even though it’s not the normal resting or moving position.
Your muscles learn to return to the non-natural state and use that non-natural state as its natural state. This muscle memory can be a cause of pain, even long after the actual injury has presumably healed. With massage and stretching you can retrain the muscle memory to its natural state, but it does take time.
Just like when we learn something new it takes time to remember whatever it is we are learning. Take for instance when I learn a new massage technique like a certain stretch I have to continually remind myself as I am doing the stretch where I place each hand and which direction to stretch. After repetitively doing the stretch for my clients I find myself doing the stretch without having to remind myself which hand goes where and which direction to stretch. All that practice made me able to automatically do the stretch without thinking!
Same with your muscles! We retrain them with massage to go back to the natural state of being relaxed in the natural position. After continually relaxing the muscle and putting it back in its natural position after time it starts to automatically relax and stay in its natural state or position. Like the old saying goes Practice makes perfect.
At Blue Pacific Massage & Body Works I have a therapeutic massage package to help you with any chronic pain and help your muscle memory return to its natural state.
I am a professional certified massage therapist dedicated to helping clients feel better with massage. Call or Text 760 680 7910 for your appointment or book online at Massage Book ...

 Cannabis-Infused Massage
Massage can be soothing for both body and the mind. A Professional Massage Therapist knows where exactly to start to relax and relieve the stressed muscles. People prefer and use different types of oils for massage because of the health benefits associated with each type of massage. What is more intriguing is that most people do not know that one of the best ways to uplift the health benefits of massage is to use cannabis infused massage oil.
In states where cannabis is legalized, you can find Massage Therapists offering cannabis infused massage.
Having that said, some of you might be thinking that cannabis massage will get you high but it won’t. It is simply because of the fact that this oil will not make it into the bloodstream, thus you don’t have to worry about that.
Benefits of Cannabis Infused Massage Oil
There are tons of amazing health benefits of cannabis infused massage oil. Some of them are:
  • Anti-inflammatory Properties – Getting a massage from a professional practitioner can be soothing because of the anti-inflammatory properties. It reduces the pain and inflammation in the muscles.
  • Senses are relaxed – Using cannabis infused oil for a massage will stimulate your skin and senses just like getting your skin high.
  • Makes the Skin Healthier – A cannabis infused oil contains fatty acids and other healthy compounds that can nourish and strengthen the skin. It leaves a glowing effect to the skin and makes it lighter in tone.
  • Muscles Relaxation – Cannabis infused oil massage can stimulate the skin which helps the muscles to relax. This eases pain and tension in the muscles and is an excellent way to decompress at the end of the day.

These are some of the best benefits of using cannabis infused oil for a massage. All these properties combine to create a unique companion for a massage. The health benefits of this massage oil are not limited to the person getting the massage only. The practitioner also gets to enjoy these benefits through their hands. The job of a massage practitioner is very demanding and hectic. The use of cannabis infused oil in massage will also help them stay active and energetic.
You can also mix it with other essential oils to make it healthier for the skin. The use of this oil is not harmful to the skin in any way and does not possess any side effects as well.
What you should make sure that the use of cannabis is legal in your state and you have a license to use cannabis. Having met these two requirements, you are ready to experience an all different massage that will boost your emotions, relax your muscles, give peace to your mind and soul and make you feel better.
I encourage every one of you to experience a massage and get all those benefits a massage has for you!!

Massage For Body Maintenance?

Relieving tight muscles with massage is an effective way to decrease pain and discomfort acquired by everyone on a daily basis.

Then why is it that many people choose to overlook massage therapy as an option for relief with regular massage as a good body maintenance? Some of the answers may be not knowing exactly what massage entails and trusting someone with your body.

If you have never had a massage, it is understandable how it you may have some of these concerns you may have with notions of modesty, knowledge about what massage entails and body image. Let’s ease those concerns so that you can employ the many benefits of massage therapy into your own life.

We can start with modesty and keeping within the bounds of proper conduct. Your therapist will allow you privacy to disrobe by leaving the room. You may keep your underwear on or not it is entirely up to you as you need to feel comfortable. Some people even wear a bathing suit or short shorts! There is no need to worry as you are fully covered by a sheet the entire time of the massage. “Draping” a technique used by using the sheet to maintain your sense of security and create a modest boundary between therapist and client. You can relax knowing that your safety and modesty are highly protected by the massage therapist. Knowledge of what the massage entails will help in maximizing your massage experience. As a first time client, your therapist will help by asking questions and allowing you to ask questions, letting you know where to put your things, what the massage will entail, and explain anything like breathing and relaxing during the massage.

Body image is another thing that seems to stop people from enjoying the benefits of a good massage experience. Massage is for everybody!! Every shape and every size. Professional massage therapists are aware of the many different body forms and functions, and work professionally to make you feel comfortable in receiving a massage.

So I encourage every one of you to experience a massage and get all those benefits a massage has for you!!

Geriatric Massage

Massage For Seniors

Just about anyone can reap the benefits of massage, and the elderly are no different. As a matter of fact, the elderly can certainly benefit a lot from the services of a professional massage therapist. This specific type of massage therapy is called geriatric massage.

Massage therapy can help seniors to get in touch with the vital sensations of their bodies and to feel nurtured and cared for.  It accelerates the removal of normal cellular wastes that can cause fatigue and malaise which can get backed up from a person being inactive or sedentary.

For seniors, especially those who may live alone or who are fairly inactive, regular massage is extremely beneficial.  As we age, many of our systems slow down.  Often seniors suffer from dehydration which further slows the transmission of fluids and vital nutrients to all cells of the body.  Many conditions can bothersome , like arthritis, achy joints, gastrointestinal disorders, balance issues, and even diminished vision and hearing. Massage therapy is used as treatment for many chronic pain issues.

All too often our senior citizens become confined and seldom get to enjoy the fresh outdoors, or interact with people of all ages, or keep themselves busy with hobbies or activities.  Massage therapy is just one way to assist seniors to begin to get moving again, which in fact they do as their health improves with the many benefits massage therapy provides.

Massage therapy is one path of treatment for patients with Alzheimer's disease. Although there is no known cure for the disease, many Alzheimer's patients receive massage therapy to help with relaxation. The direct contact of massage therapy provides those with Alzheimer's disease a way to relax, which reduces the anxiety associated with the disease.

It is important we consider the benefits of the physical contact with massage therapy for the elderly, especially for those who are residents in nursing homes or being treated in the hospital. Geriatric Massage Therapy allows seniors to enjoy some physical human contact. Touch is a very important part of staying healthy….

Get the "Fuzz" out with Massage....

In my most popular massage which is Blue Pacific's Full Body Massage  I integrate stretches as stretching is very important for getting the fuzz out....... What is that you ask well its explained here in this Video . I do a lot of research and through that research I found this video and wanted to share it.

As explained in the video when we are immobile or asleep the interfaces of our muscles grow a type of "fuzz" between the sliding surfaces of your musculature and when we stretch.......that fuzz melts away. The fuzz is a thin layer of fine loose filmy fiber often found between superficial fascia and deep fascia. When you get a build up of this fuzz it causes a stiffness and if we get too much build up of the "fuzz" we get thicker fibers forming which inhibits movement and reduces range of motion. This is one of the reasons I always put some stretches into my massage not only is it getting rid of that fuzz it also feels great !!

The many benefits from stretching the muscles, tendons and cartilage are that the stretch lengthens muscle fibers that have contracted from disuse or excessive use and helps restore muscle flexibility, assists in removal of natural wastes like lactic acid from muscles it also helps increases flexibility, restores muscle balance and warms the muscles. Stretching also relieves stress and tension, reduces inflammation in joints and improves posture.

Mobile Massage

With all the many benefits of massage, many people would prefer to have a Massage Therapist come to them for treatment instead of having to visit the massage therapist. Mobile Massage has the benefits of allowing the client to remain in their own environment where they are most likely more comfortable. Mobile Massage alleviates the before and after stresses of travelling to receive a  massage and another benefit is that they can retire directly to a place of rest or more comfortable setting for a shower or bath immediately following their massage. Mobile Massage Therapist Therapists can bring their own table, equipment and supplies necessary for a professional massage or treatment at your own home. Mobile (or outcall) massages are becoming more and more popular all  around the world and where life can seem more hectic these days the convenience of mobile massage is a Big Plus !!
